Emma Dunbar

Emma Dunbar graduated from West Surrey College of Art & Design in the mid 1980’s with a degree in printmaking. She has worked full time as an artist ever since and regularly exhibits at Thompson’s Gallery and Curwen & New Academy in London. Her paintings are collected worldwide and have been reproduced as greetings cards and limited edition etchings as well as fabric designs. Her delightfully observed views of harbours and coastal towns are inspired by years of travel in India and regular holidays in Cornwall.

“These paintings are inspired by visits to Cornish harbours and ingredients of favourite things that surround me in my studio. I bring home places and compose with colour and shape. I may have a fantastic bunch of orange rununculas and remember the view of Mousehole as the light leaves and everything turns brilliant blue, or I may have geometric boat shapes and a collection of new mugs and teacups. Very often I play with layers, foreground, distance, inside, outside and scratched layers of paint.”
